Blossoms and Belle

Our little peach tree is busting out with blossoms, they sure are pretty. I've never had a peach tree before. Lisa at Laughing Orca has blossoms too, and just got hit with some sleet and snow; I sure hope it doesn't harm her crop.

Coyote Belle has volunteered to stay in her foaling pen. She refuses to leave it. It's 20X20 so a good size, and I'm sure baby is hunting the foaling position- watch these videos and see if you agree. Still no wax though.

Beautiful photo of your peach blossom. Our blossoms and buds survived the night, but after all the snow melted this morning, it began snowing again. Now it's blowing snow thick and sideways!

I often wonder if animals understand what is going on inside of them when they are pregnant. Coyote Belle seems to be telling her baby to quiet down in there by tapping her huge belly with her goof. Poor mama! She is ripe with foal!

I think this foal is going be quite big with super long legs....

And I have to change my guess yet again:

That looks so uncomfortable, shes probly hoping it gets out soon, so she stays in the foaling pen.

Shirley,
These videos are so amazing. Thank you for sharing them! I feel like I'm witnessing something miraculous. :) How beautiful. I can't wait to see the baby! And lucky you to have a peach tree. We've been meaning to plant some fruit trees sometime...

Hi Shirley,

Great videos! I was wondering though - at what point in the mare's pregnancy can you usually see or feel the baby move? I have an Oldenburg mare who is 8 months along; she is a maiden and this is my first baby as well. I'm just wondering when I can expect to see this myself!

Thanks!

Hi Leslie,
You should be able to see the baby move in the last trimester, which your mare is just entering. I've been seeing baby move in this mare since I got her back at the beginning of March, which would have been 10 months. Some babies are more active than others, and with a big mare you may not notice it as much until the last few weeks. She should start "building a bag" within the last 6 weeks, and there are many other things to look for. Feel free to email me or post comment questions ans your mare progresses. What fun for you!
