Our weekend

Hope everyone had a good Easter weekend, and got their fill of family, good food, and spring weather. Ted's brother came over and spent the night, and I talked him into taking some Beamer photos with his lovely Nikon camera -that wasn't to hard to do- imagine that!

The mares got their first turn-out on the pasture. Coyote Belle is getting large, but her udder isn't full yet. I'm going to have The Contest posted this week; stay tuned! Velvet's leg is much better. I am hoping to get time to haul Chickory to the round pen this week- I really need to work on her manners. Twice this week she got pushy with me; both times were a choice for her between fear of Coyote Belle, (who is very crabby right now) and getting in my space. My space was her choice both times!
Got a question for you horse folks: why would Chickory be obsessed with Coyote Belle's poo? She eats or licks it; I spent 15 minutes last night keeping her away from a fresh pile of it, as soon as I left she was right back in it. I thought maybe she is looking for bits of oats in it. She is the only horse in the herd that does that, and it's only Coyote Belle's poo, not Velvet's. Belle is the only one getting grain right now.
Ted loaded out 3 truckloads from the manure mountain; actually it was the old stuff that has composted back to topsoil.
Off to work now and tomorrow too. (Drat!)

Love the airborne shot too!

When dogs eat poo they are usually trying to get potassium - I have no clue why horses would, but maybe there's something she's craving...

Awesome pics! I don't know what to tell you about the poo obsession but my little herd dig around in the ancient poo pile on the property...(shavings) ?

I love the pic of Beamer airborn! What a shot.

About the poop: You said the mare is in foal? The hormones are different in her system right now and I am assume Chickory is still young. Did she eat her moms when she was younger? A lot of foals do. It's how they get some nutrients before they are weaned.
Remember horses do not have nutritional wisdom so your little girl there is not lacking some mystery mineral. I wouldn't get excited about it, just make sure they are adequately wormed.

Great pictures of Beamer!! He looks so sleek and shiny, wish mine would hurry and shed the winter furries!!
I know that when Chance was younger, she would eat poo. I also heard that it is normal for babies to do that.

He did a pretty good job with that Nikon, but you do a pretty darn good job yourself. I hope you also had a nice holiday weekend.

Sydney, Chickory is a 2 year old. I bought her as a weanling and know nothing of her early history.

Awesome pics! I love those flatlands and the mountainous background. Reminds me a little bit of Nevada, but NOT Las Vegas.

Gorgeous shots of Beamer...Look at that coat shine!

Interesting comment from Sydney about the poo thing. Wish I had something to add, but I haven't a clue.

Lovely pictures of your crew! Looks like they were thoroughly enjoying the sunshine!
I have no idea why Chickory would be doing that. I know puppies and dogs do it...some of them. But I've never heard of a horse doing this! I need to go back and read the other comments now to see what people said. Something new to learn!

Wow! The grass is so green! I hope ours greens up soon. Looks like you got a mountain of black gold! Whoohoo!

Love, Love, Love the action shots of Beamer, especially the 'Airs Above Ground' shot. Hey, maybe Beamer thinks he's a Lippazaner. You know they are born black. lol!

I love Beamer!!!!

Oh!! And I forgot to say that I like the family photo very much. It's great to see you and your man together. And I don't often see shots of you. You're such a cutie :)
And now I can see exactly Beamer's size in comparison to you. He always exudes such strength and height, but you're right, he's not a big horse at all.

He sure is one handsome fella, though.
