Morden Sunrise
Speaking of roses, there are some wild roses in this area that are spectacular;

huge bushes loaded with blooms. I have permission from the landlord to take a few shoots. They are thorny though!

So I'll have to be careful handling them. This bush is around 10 feet high and free standing.
I did manage to get my garden weeded, and it's coming along nicely.

I've had strawberries and green onions from it so far, and it won't be long before I can have some Romaine lettuce.

Sammi is learning to play with both other dogs, but she doesn't chase the ball; she thinks it's her job to protect it! I think she'll make a darn good working dog. Speaking of which, it's pretty certain that my landlord won't allow me to have sheep here; he was a little torked that I was using the pasture at all; we need to come to a new agreement with him. So I will have to see if I can make other arrangements for getting to work Tess on sheep this year. Bah!

Those roses are gorgeous! Why wouldn't he want you to use the pasture?
Sherry, he rents the pasture out to a guy with cow/calf pairs and gets paid by the unit. I have an agreement with the cow guy to use one paddock, probably 3 acres out of the 80, and dear landlord thinks it'll cut into his pocketbook if the cows have to come off the pasture a day or two early because my horses are eating their grass. At best it would be about 2 or 3 days, because there are 60 pairs. Landlord isn't taking into account the hard work that we have done here cleaning up the mess left by previous tenants and owners. We have probably increased the market value of this place by $50,000 just on the eye appeal, let alone the ongoing maintenance we do. With some folks it's all about money.
Thats too bad Shirley, if the cow guy doesn't mind I wouldn't have a problem. Tell the landlord he should pay you to pasture your horses , after all we all know stallions are great coyote control!
Plus they are so dang pretty !
The garden is looking great. And the rose is fabulous. I love antique roses. :)
It sure is about the money with some people, sad hey.. Well I hope it works out for you and the landlord cools his jets!!
That sure is a beautiful rose I would so LOVE a rooting from it, it probably wouldn't survive out here I suppose.. love the garden it looks so yummy!! mine is hardly up even though we planted at the same time, it has been raining so much here it has pretty much drowned everything :(
Sammi is like her mom then you will have to play ball with her alone to teach her to chase it. Bree was that way when she was that age... but word to the wise lol you are probably better off having two baller chasers and one ball protecter hahahaha 3 ball chasers may be too many as I am finding out here.. We still have Pink or as we call her Jesse and I taught her to ball chase and now there is a pack going after the ball LOL
Really unfortunate for you that you can't get any sheep. why did he say you couldn't have 3 sheep?
Tara that Morden sunrise rose should do well in Saskatchewan; the Morden series roses originated in Manitoba especially to survive the harsh Canadian winters. You should check them out, they are beautiful. I love the Morden Blush rose too. There is lots of info on them if you google it.
The landlord only wants me to have 3 horses here, and is quite put out that I have 4. I reckon he'll get over it, but sheep would be a little too much to ask at this point. I'll keep working on it though.
I think I would like to keep Sammi from chasing the ball for now. I like that she comes to me and watches the other 2 , and protects.
wow, those wild roses are beautiful! I love yellow roses. And your garden is so georgeous, I just finished mine today because its been so wet and cold. Not sure if we are actually gonna get anything but peas and beans, but still gotta try.
Love the last standoff pic..My Ball!! :-)
I thought you owned that property. Or is just the pasture you don't own? It would stink having someone always telling you what you can and cant' do with the land you're leasing, especially if they knew you wanted it for raising livestock.
How many sheep we're you wanting to get? 3-4 sheep would probably be enough for herding purposes, right?
