Too close to home

Now that it's on the radio, I can tell you about the interesting day I had yesterday. In the photo above, our home is behind the maple trees on the right; the landlord has the big shop rented out, and the overhang on the right side of the shop is where my mare pen is, and where Kai was born.
I had the farrier come to trim Beamer and Kai yesterday, and just as he pulled in the driveway, along came the drug squad with a search warrant. Farrier was a little shaken to have the police descend upon him and take his info! So as we are getting Beamer done, the police were searching the shop, and found around 300 marijuana plants and all the assorted paraphernalia that it takes to grow them in the two rooms that were sealed off for that purpose. When they opened it up the smell was overwhelming! They were wearing gas masks. The renters weren't there while this was going down.
I'm not surprised about this as we had our suspicions from the first that these people were up to no good, but we had no proof. It turns out that they were under surveillance for months, which we also figured. If you are wondering why we didn't go to the police anyway it is because all we had was speculation and suspicion. In a small town, you'd better have more than that as the threat of retaliation is very real where everybody knows everybody's business.
I'm happy that we don't have this grow-op literally in our back yard any more. Now I hope that they make an arrest soon so that I can sleep easy at night.

But some good news today too! Kai did fairly well with his first trim, and today was my first day volunteering at the Therapeutic Riding center. It's really interesting, and so wonderful to see the happiness that horses bring to the children. Also, it will keep me in shape, it's a lot of walking!

wow, that must've been pretty scary finding out what was going on near you! we had to put up with dealers when the guy who was the tenant in our former residence was wheeling and dealing coke and pot. he'd do it right out in the alley in front of our home, and it was terrifying. the cops told me the same thing, you better have proof! i had no proof. none. i only witnessed it. they told me they'd need solid evidence in order to make an arrest. so for years i put up with it until the guy moved out. finally, it was the last straw this year, another tenant moved in and was smoking dope and exposing her kid to it. i decided i had had enough of the dealers and we moved. iam not sorry we did.

Wow, that had to be a little scary, sometimes it is better to play ignorant of such goings on! Therapeutic Riding is such a neat thing! Kids have such a wonderful way with horses! Horses can sense things that is amazing.

Maybe you can turn those pups into drug sniffin' dogs! LOL! I deal with this people on a daily basis and they never cease to amaze me.

The Therapeutic Riding center sounds very cool. You're doing an awesome thing volunteering there.

Interesting. Did they claim to be growing it for personal medical use? That seems to be all the rage now.

I wish there were more therapeutic riding centers around here for both children and adults. And I wish they were doing it for all the right reasons and not just to make money.

Our local horse rescue, the one I volunteer for has recently started a therapeutic program for deaf children. Eventually it may carry over to other disabled children, but so far it has been a huge success for both the rescued horses and the deaf children, too.

Therapeutic riding is a really great thing.

Well, that was some sort of excitement! Hope they catch the idiots!

Therapeutic riding is the best! I've been volunteering and one center or another for over 10 years. You are right....the horses are magicians for many kids and adults. I love watching the progress some kids make - incredible week to week changes in core muscle strength, balance and attitude.

Yup, the walking is great exercise!

It not only amazes me where some of these operations are but the people that own them....some we even know..scary because the thought of some particular people never crossed my mind.
