We had a thunder storm last night, just enough rain to get rid of the dust and help control the forest fire you can see on the mountain in the photo above. It's still smoky today, but not as bad, I'm sure the suppression crews will have it out quickly. The horses could feel the energy building for the storm, and all the kids had to play a little before being brought in for the night.
Hat tip to Cowboy Celtic for the music!
Janice has posted some photos of the area for our Blogger Trail Ride, head over to Own a Morgan to check it out. the photos don't show the trails, but rather the rugged beauty of the area.
I couldn't resist this photo of Kai's shadow, it was the type of photo I wanted to do for Sunday Stills Shadows, but I never got home from work in time to capture the right moment in the setting sun.

I love the shadow picture that is gorgeous!
Great shadow picture! I love the idea of a blogger trail ride. I'm glad you guys are putting that together! Neat idea! And I'm also very glad that the fire on the mtn is getting controlled. Summer fires make me so sad. I know its part of nature, but its still sad to see the losses.
let me clarify that. I think fires set be natural occurances are fine, sad, but necessary and fine. But so many of them are NOT set by nature, and that makes me mad and resentful towards stupid people.
Great shadow picture. I'm still worried about bears on this trail ride.
That video is great, they look like they were having fun, except Belle not running, how typical. The shadow picture looks really cool!
CCC, bears are always a part of the wilderness. The thing about bears is that if we don't bother them they will leave us alone. Large groups of riders tend to make a lot of noise, and you can be sure they hear you coming. I've done a lot of wilderness riding and have never encountered a bear. That being said, there will be at least one of us who will be packing a saddle rifle, maybe more. The area we are going to ride is well used by horsemen, so the wildlife know what to expect. Put your worries to rest and come and join us! Bring some iron if you'd like!
Love the video. They were having so much fun. Great shadow pic!
I sure like your photos! I especially enjoyed your video. Don't you just love watching your horses frisk like that? I know I love seeing ours just take off and start playing like that!
Ok , got it shaved down to about a 10 hour haul(barring trouble) which means for us it would be leave Friday at the latest and home late Monday. Seriously trying to make this happen ,Martin figurs they will still be haying ,but BIL and Dad may pinch hit for a couple of days .The other issue is getting 2 horse fit for the ride. How many spares does Janice have if we need to go that route?
Whoops! Wanted to say that a blogger trail ride sounds awesome.
They were sure having fun! I love your shadow photo.
After all my figuring ,I realised its the same weekend as the horse show. Maybe another time
Great shadow shot, fires are part of summer, I hope they get a handle on it..:-)
LOVE the shadow shot! That needs to be enlarged and hung on a wall!
YOu forgot an honorable mention for Coyote Belle in your video. hehe!
Such a sensible mare....why run like crazy when there is food to eat?
Kai was so cute as if he was saying, "Look at me, girls, I'm faster and can run circles around you!"

your video made me smile... i'd love to take video of my girls running, but they raise such a cloud of dust you wouldn't be able to see them! your pasture is lovely!
