The good news was that his back didn't need chiro, just massage, and there was one adjustment in his neck. The video below shows how she assessed him, and some of the work she did on him. I think that we will have to address the first level of treatment, ie. his muscle pain, and then will have another level to address the issues in his neck. So he has another appointment for Wednesday evening, and I will be massaging him twice a day. I was happy to find that this young lady uses the same essential oils that I do, so we are combining that treatment with the massage.
The bad news is that it may very well be my saddle that is causing this problem. When we checked the saddle, there is a very slight convex spot right about where the soreness is on his back, and of course when I'm in the saddle that spot would be putting a lot of pressure there. So I'm on the hunt for another saddle! I knew a while ago that this saddle didn't fit quite right but didn't think it was that bad. I have a couple of local resources; it's always a trial finding a saddle that fits. I'd love to be able to haul to Alberta to the tack stores!
I hope I can get my boy feeling better before the weekend.

Mmm Beamer says that feels good. Massages are great. Indigo buckled at the knees once when I first started to do my equine massage therapy certificate and had to practice a lot. She looooooved it.
Sounds like you're on the road to a horse that feels better. Finding a saddle that fits can be a trial. Maisie was particularly hard to fit - high withers, broad back and somewhat narrow in the shoulders - but we finally found one and her way of going and comfort level were much improved.
I guess your talking about your English saddle not fitting? If it's Western, maybe you know this but Triple Creek has saddle tree forms that they will ship to you so you can get the exact right tree for them to build you a saddle on. Our barrel racer did that because her horse is so tough to fit and she is quite happy with the resulting saddle. Plus it's custom, so you can order what you want.
I ride a lot of different size and shaped horses and find my wade fits most everything. It even fit her horse and she borrowed it this winter while hers was being made.
Actually, CCC, it's my western saddle that I was talking about; I don't own an English one yet. I'll have to check out Triple Creek; where are they located?
for reining saddles I am a personal fan of Continentals... I have alawys had a saddle problem for Attitude but since getting my Penni Gerardi he has been awesome! http://www.continentalsaddlery.com/
Hey Shirley thanks for the video, been a couple years since I seen my cousin!! Melissa you rock!
Great video! After seeing and hearing what she had to say, I'm going to ask around here for names and have my guys checked.
Beamer was almost smiling at one point..what a good boy..I hope you get this soreness solved:)
She sure seemed to have the right spot .It is amazing the good wrk these animal chiropractors can do , tougher with horses as they can't tell just you where it hurts.
That was very interesting. I've always wondered what horse chiropractors do. I like her Pegasus tattoo too.
How amazing and cool is that?!
I get my Bailey massaged quite regular cause she always has some sore spot from some crazy thing she does, and she loves it, everytthing except when they twist her head, her favorite is when she pulls the forelock, its so funny to watch when they enjoy it that much.
oh! look at that! he must have loved the rub! good boy! :)
More! More! More! Where did she go? (says Beamer)
Do you think he might have had more ROM in his neck if he weren't worried about the rope halter rubbing into his eyes? It just looked like several times he was guarded because the rope was at the edge of his eyes. At one point he seemed annoyed that he couldn't turn towards her hand and the grass because the rope would have been right across his eye had he gone further.
You can definetely tell that she knows all the good spots to rub. He was sure relaxed and enjoying his massage.
When I had Apache adjusted and massaged just before I bought her, her knees actually buckled. lol! And afterwards as I was walking her around, she wanted to drop down and take a nap several times.
I've never had a massage, but if horses love it so much, then I'm tempted to get one, too. Maybe for my birthday in two weeks! hehe!
