Since there is a fire ban on all but small campfires right now, I went to my archives for some of these.

Mesmerizing open flames....

are a great way to spend a summer evening, especially with hot dogs or marshmallows on a stick.
Then there is the serenity of candles,

and the swirl of smoke when you blow them out.

But mostly smoke signifies danger, like house fires, forest fires, burnt food on the stove!, and as in this instance, the smoke from a crash and burn highway accident a couple of weeks ago.

I like the candle swirls. Yes, smoke in the sky is very bad.
Very nice, Shirley. I like the first two!
Very cool shots, especially the last one..:-)
I'm with Ed....I love the last one. we ha the same idea on the first two but it was cold and wet enough here that I got to do mine this week.
Great shots, you covered the challenge well. :)
Great shots, Shirley!
Very nice! A really good job of capturing the subject.
Glad you adhered to the fire ban, and lucky you had old photos. They are great.
I love the first photo. Does that mean there will be no fires on the trail ride? That's one of the best parts of camping, visiting around the fire.
i like the photo of the wisp of smoke around the white candle.
Great shots! You captured the smoke perfectly which is really hard to do.
These are great!
I worry about my blogfriends in BC - not knowing eactly where most of you are and how close to the forest fires you might be.
Wonderful photos all. It's not easy to capture the vibrancy of flames. You did it perfectly.

Well done on the smoke from the candle! I tried and tried with the incense and couldn't get a thing. Great job!
