Rainy days

What to do on a rainy day.... well, make plum jam and plum crisp!

A couple of days ago, just before the rain hit, Ted got the dog pen finished.
Canine Hilton
Nice and dry inside the run, no more mud, the snow will shed nicely, and tall enough that I can get in to clean it.
Fall is in the air here even though the frost hasn't hit; there is a huge flock of birds that all move in unison, they sound like a big wind when they take off.
They've been hanging around for a couple of weeks, they look like cowbirds, grey body and brown heads, and there are hundreds of them together. So far no sign of geese on the move, there were some a month ago but nothing since. The main sign of fall here is the sound of gunshots; hunting season is upon us and I really want to get an elk this year.
Rain has literally put a damper on my riding; I need to get some more time in on Chickory, but don't want to risk slippery footing- I need her to stay confidant. Oh well, I'm in no hurry! The rain is keeping the cats indoors, which means they are really bored and tearing up the place. Banishment to the cat room!
Ted is putting on a consignment auction here next month, and we have already started gathering items. We have the use of the big shop (where the grow op was!) so weather won't be a problem. I love auctions!
The draft horse show is next weekend in Sandpoint Idaho, we're planning on going Saturday. Can't wait! Any other bloggers going?

thats a pretty nice dog house you got there!
I would love to go to the draft show, but its rodeo weekend in Hanna and we have to go watch my farrier ride a bull on Sadurday.

You know I usually have a time restraint when working a youngster so this year with our own I am taking my time. I said to myself "She ain't got nothing to prove to anybody" meaning I would rather have her sound mentally and physically than trained in a hurry.

Elk abound here. I talked to a 73 year old lady today who got one right outside her campsite at the irrigation channels. I asked what she shot it with, and she said, "A gun." I said what kind of gun, a 270 Winchester, a Weatherby, a Remington, what calibre? She just said, "Oh a gun." I kinda think she was just carrying a tag for someone in her hunting party who bagged the elk for her. I mean, she could barely walk! But she said tehre are herds of elk right in the valley and they would watch them at night from their camp site.

We have had our first skein of Geese in from the Russian Steppes, huge black clouds of them! They come to winter on our flood plains near the Solway Firth. Its fantastic to watch. By the way, love the Doggy Hilton.

Mmmmm that jam sure looks good! I have never tried making jam yet. Too busy doing all the veggies ;) I like your doggie Hilton! I have seen quite a few bird clusters getting ready to go south lately. I haven't taken the time to try to photograph them yet.

I'm making jelly as it's rainy here today. I saw cranes go over on Friday while we were out riding...it's early for them but maybe they know something we're just guessing at.

i did my canning. but on cold days like we've had here for the last 2 weeks off an on, i don't like to go out much. i like to stay at home and cook, clean my house, and read articles on th enet and watch some tv. i do like to go out for my walks but if its rainy and too deary i stay in doors. now that we are not going to have a car for much longer, its going to be more challenging to get out and go shopping. but hey, public transit is going to be good. just take longer to get places. still looking for a good old beater to get us from point a to point d:)
