Oh what a beautiful day today! This afternoon I was outside doing chores, and was reluctant to come indoors- now that's rare for me in the winter!
Kate at A Year With Horses recently did a post talking about quirks with horses; her horse Pie sucks his tongue. Beamer is a yawner; I'm sure you have seen the many photos I've had of him yawning, but there is one other thing he does that I find amusing: when he is standing relaxed, he lays his hoof right over on the ground; my other horses just tip their foot, but himself lays it right over.
My first few farriers would see the smooth patches on the front of his hooves and think he really dragged his toes when he walks, but he doesn't.
When I was working on setting up a new gate on his shelter, he was VERY helpful; he had his face right next to mine, inspecting every little thing I did, quite sure that I needed his help.
C'mon, let me help!
I wanted to get a photo of him goofing around, but every time I turned around, this is what I saw.....
*** Sigh*** Yes Beamer, you are a very helpful boy. How would I have managed without you?
I finally managed to get the job done- basically I was setting up the shelter that utilizes the cattle crowding tub so that it has openings at both ends so that Url doesn't go in and get trapped when Beamer goes in too.
Hope tomorrow is just as nice!

Oh! Mr Handsome!!! He is such a sweet gorgeous boy. Bet you don't mind your work taking longer whan it is with him!
Tom's mare Napples does that with her relaxed hoof and her son does the same thing, so I guess there are a few horses out there with that trait.
We have a few helpers as well - Scout is always curious about anything the people are doing, and Dawn, I swear, would drive the tractor or work the drill if you just showed her what to do!
Kate, Beamer picked up the hammer, and the panel pin. I thought he was going to run off with them!
Aww mr.studly himself.
LOL That Beamer is such a cool horse!!!
Don't you love how the snow scrubs white hooves so clean? (OK so yeah... I'm kinda OCD about that huh? ;) )
Love his eye Shirley. Love your connection with him too.
What a hunk! Love it that he is soooooo curious!
Funny about his quirk...good on you're farrier to notice that too.
like Kate's Pie, mine is yawning. My sis says it releases endorphins.
Beamer's such a handsome boy. And so helpful. Isn't that what all women want?
he has wonderful eyes ...
Good help is hard to find now days, you know!
How cute...with the feet AND with wanting to help. I just love the curiosity of horses and their interest in 'helping' in whatever way they can.
Our horses like to help too :)
Lovely shots of his eye....don't be sighing about all his help, you know you adore him and love all his attempts to be a handy guy.
Janice, he did make me smile all through my chores!
It's clear to see that you love Beamer and that Beamer loves you.
He looks like he was really helpful, I had a horse that would walk under the ladder and walk away with it, it was funny until Neil was on it one time, lol.
I like the pics of you on Beamer for the Sunday Stills too, they sure are prety cool looking!
That pastern angle almost looks like it would be painful...like if we over bend our wrist joint.
As long as he's comfy with it. lol!
He's such a sweet and handsome boy. It's great that you can have such a gentle helper.
