Still holding off on the snow

This weekend was all about getting wood in- with Ted working out of town so much this summer, it was one of the things that got put on the back burner, and now, I need some fuel for that burner! So Saturday we headed up the mountain.
This photo was taken from the landing where we were cutting firewood; overlooking Wynndel and Duck Lake. We got a load and headed home, I love the view from up there.
This is a little closer to where we live, our place would be just out of the picture on the left. Those mountains (the Selkirk mountains) are straight west of us. We live "down on the flats" which is land reclaimed from the Kootenay River. To the east of us are the Purcell mountains, locally called the Skimmerhorns, and they are sporting a fresh coat of white paint  snow.

Why do they have to eat the weeds in the dirt when they are surrounded with plenty of grazing??

We've got a good start on filling our new woodshed, a couple more days labor and I'll be set for a while.
I must say, I'm glad we didn't get hit with the snow that Janice got today. I'm going to have to get a photo tomorrow of my pansies that are still hanging in there!

Beautiful country. Sure beats the flat by us. We got about 4" of heavy wet sloppy snow last week, but it's gone now. I'd help with the wood if I was closer. I enjoy making firewood.

That is a gorgeous view...yes, that snow can stay away for a while longer. You'll be set with the shed filled...what a relief!

I need wood, too, but first I need a wood stove and have to wait until after Christmas to get it. :( Why do horses eat weeds rather than good grass...good question. If you figure that one out can you also find out why dogs have to eat manure?

Good thing you didnt get all that snow before the wood shed was filled. Love that view from up there too.

love the wood shed

I envy you all the wood. We burn old cedar posts and some dead trees we've scavenged off the river flat.....and only in emergencies. Keep the snow for a while...I'm not ready for winter yet.

That's a nice sight. I love Woddsheds especially when they are full of wood. Why do horses eat weeds in the dirt when they have good grazing? That's too easy Shirley... because they are horses:)

It is positively BEAUTIFUL where you live!! Had to laugh about eating the weeds when there is grazing nearby -- so true!!!
