The rope and the lope

Today's work with Gussie went really well; I didn't have a proper roping dummy, so I roped some implements parked in the bush, and was glad to see that I can still catch-probably because it wasn't moving!- and we moved on to the tire:and she willingly dragged it backwards
and forwards. I haven't managed to get the rope under her tail yet; I was thinking that I should put her in the round pen and work on desensitizing her to that; it would beat suprising her and maybe getting in a wreck! I also did some dry work with her on rollbacks and picking up the correct leads. So all in all, she had a good workout, and was happy to stand ground tied for one more picture.

You had a better day than hubby! He's got a 2 yr old filly in that came last Sat. and EACH day she's destroyed something! Today, it was his hitching rail that has withstood over 100 head giving it their best shot! Today, she "won" and that was her dragging lesson! She drug it behind her until she came to a gate....and waited for it to get 'disconnected' from her!

Yikes! Hope she didn't get hurt! And I hope she can learn not to fear things dragging behind her; your hubby's job will be that much more difficult now.

I love that last picture - and your tack, too!

All you need is something that will hold still, and you got yourself a roping dummy!

Thanks, AO. That saddle I had custom made by my friend Brian at Brian's Saddle Shop in B.C. There is a link to him on my sidebar. I got to do some of the tooling on it, and to choose the stamps and all the details- Oregon twist to the stirrups so that thet are always right there for your foot, brass-look hardware, and no cheyenne roll on the cantle because I don't like trying to clean underneath them!
I always ride with split reins, even when roping.

Actually...that dragging incident was her 'turning point'! She's made a complete turn towards TRUST now. What a different horse!
