The Mud Knot

I got a comment from Jenn at Green Slobber on my Shirt blog (love that name!)about the knots I put in Beamer's tail to keep it out of the mud and promised to do a tutorial on it. Beamer's tail reaches the ground, and to keep it from breaking and getting stepped on, I use the Fisherman's knot. I put about a half dozen of them in rather than one big one, they stay in better.
Start by taking a section of hair,

wrap it over your palm and in front of itself,

take the end and run it behind,

over and through the loop in your hand:

and pull it through and tighten it.

Viola! A mud knot that stays in for a long time. I usually undo them after a couple of weeks and then redo them.

It's best to place them higher up the tail rather than near the end,and if the tail is a little bit dirty it works better than a nice clean, show-sheened slippery tail.
And yes, that is the way my lawn looks today. It needs mowing. At the end of November. Go figure!

Yesterday we were blessed with sunshine, at least for part of the day. Beamer was so happy to get out of his muddy pen where he could run and play and see all "his" herd.
But first- a little prayer... Please let there be more sun.....

Oh, did I mention I love to run?

And play. Play is important.

Although Canadian Thanksgiving was last month, I'd like to say happy Thanksgiving to all my blog friends and readers in the United States. I'm thankful that I started blogging and got to "know" you, there sure are many I'd like to meet.I hope you have a good day with family and friends.

November blahs

It is beyond dismal today. This photo was taken at midday today.

The mares are not inclined to slog through the mud to get to their pasture. Rio won't leave his shelter. I can no longer use the wheelbarrow to shovel poo, as you can see the way to the poo pile is a muddy morass, and I am using the calf sled now.

Beamer steps out of his shelter (the one to the right and not in the picture )only long enough to check on the mares.

Even the trees have tears.

Years ago, as a child I read Little Women and remember one of the main characters, Jo, complaining about being born in November because it was always so dismal and wet.

I'm about done with blogger

I am a lot dissatisfied with blogger, there are some issues that haven't been resolved no matter how many times I post a question on their help line.  I want to stop following some blogs that are inactive and every time I go to manage my reader list, it won't let me.

So I click there where I'm supposed to and this is what I get:

I've been getting this for over 6 months now! For one thing, I know nothing about Friend Connect and have never used it to my knowledge. I usually just add blogs to my Follow list using blogger's dashboard tools- but since they changed the interface, I can't even add blogs to follow! Very frustrating!
Is anyone else having this problem? I am seriously thinking of switching to WordPress but would like some feedback on that: can I import this blog or do I have to start a new one?

Things that make you go "hmmmmm"

Doing a little research tonight. No other symptoms; good appetite, no nasal discharge.

Snow!

We got snow this morning! Of course, it's the day they are moving the last of the heifers and the bull out, so the mares and Rio got turned out into different pastures so we could use their pens for gathering. With the snow, and new places to play, it was a photo op morning (imagine that!)

That's the fastest Chickory has moved for a while.She is more content to mosey around looking for minuscule blades of grass, or bury her nose in the hay- this being a mama-in-waiting requires food ya know!

He might not look big in this photo but Rio at 20 months is the second biggest horse here. Ted stood next to him today and really got an idea of how much he has grown. His training is on hold for now, I'm satisfied with what we accomplished this far, and will resume when the weather breaks in the spring.
