Sunday Stills- Red and White (and blue)

 A little cooperation here....

No it's not a plane

would be appreciated!

You are not a bird!

You sure about that?

You are also not a fly swatter or a broom!

Some fancy moves though!

Finally!

To all you Canucks- belated happy Canada Day and to my American friends, happy Independence Day!

Sunday Stills- Roads

Today's challenge is roads- very fitting, as they are of concern to many people right now, with evacuation notices in parts of my Province of B.C. due to flooding, and for those in the U.S. trying to escape the wild fires. This photo is a road closure where a raging creek washed out a road:
If you can't read the small handwritten notice, is says "Error 404 Road not found"
The water level here is reported to be at its highest for 50 years or more. I live on a road where there used to be a ferry to take people across the Kootenay River, and the ferry landing is now used for a boat launch. I rode Gussie down there a few days ago, you can see that the concrete pad for the boat launch is not visible.
Note to Ed: that's an osprey nest on the top of a power pole behind the trees on the far bank of the river.
The best roads are country roads as seen from the back of a horse.
It's not the road itself that is wonderful, its riding a good horse that puts it all in perspective.

For any of you folks in the U.S. who want to get away from the smoke and drought, c'mon up for a visit, if you head through the border crossing in Idaho, this is what you will see- the end of the road in the U.S. and the beginning of Canadian roads at the Rykerts/Porthill border crossing.

And for all us Canadians, it's Canada day, so here is a little patriotic photo of my husband on Beamer from  last year.

11/11/11 We will remember them

God bless all those who died for our freedom, and all those who continue to fight against evil and injustice throughout the world. I attended the ceremonies at the Legion today, so following is a photo essay of the tribute paid by our town. God bless our troops, and the children portrayed here who care enough to join Cadets and Scouts. I am particularly impressed with the Sentries at the cenotaph, who stood silent and unmoving for over half an hour in the pouring rain.

Bless his heart!
Then there was the Salute from the local pilots- the "Fly-By" at the end of the two minutes of silence.

Sunday Stills

Fittingly this week's theme is patriotism, which is defined as:  devoted lovesupport, and defense of one's country; national loyalty.
To start with, I'd like to salute our soldiers who are making their way home from Afghanistan; well done, troops!
My husband belongs to a commemorative association, for the North West Mounted Police. These were the forerunners of our modern day Royal Canadian Mounted Police, aka RCMP, aka Mounties. The uniform is similar to the RCMP red serge uniform, and is historically accurate. They do public appearances at parades, rodeos, and historical functions. It is a tribute to the men who helped form this great country. So without further ado, here is our patriotic tribute:
O Canada, our home and native land,
true patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts, we see thee rise,
The true North strong and free!

From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee!

God keep our land, glorious and free;
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!

Thanks, Beamer and Ted!

Nov.11 Remembering our soldiers

Written on the battlefield, by Canadian John McCrae:
There is an excellent post at Home on the Range about Remembrance day, please visit her.
I give thanks to all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defending not only our country, but other countries as well.
