Baby's first day

So far unnamed, our little guy had a pretty good first day. Everything worked out the way it should, both mama and baby are healthy, and Belle has tuned the other mares across the fence- My Baby!
I made a little video just for my sister Michele, and now I'm off to bed. 3 AM was a very long time ago!

It was such great fun to see the video. I loved watching him nurse and hearing nursing slurps.
His star looks like a heart... or maybe a cyclone!

I love his eyes! Will they stay that color? I don't know a lot about the smoky black coloring and genetics.

Shirley said...

Sarah, smokey black horses carry the creme dilute gene, that's the gene that makes a bay into a buckskin, a sorrel into a palomino, or a black into a smokey black. There are other variations too. The light eyes will darken over time; Belle was born with the grey eyes and hers are light brown now.

I think you should call him Belle's Cyclone. He just might live up to that name. :) He's a cutie.
