Pressure and release

Here is a blog I found about about through Warwick Schiller, I have linked to it on a post that opens up a new concept (to some people like me) about pressure and release that goes beyond what we have always been told concerning horse training.

If you are interested, here is the video in which Warwick talks about the concepts in the blog post and shows how it works.

I have been working with this concept with Sophie and it has really helped me begin to understand her. Sophie is a different type of horse from any I have owned before. Working with her has really pushed my limits of understanding  how to connect with a horse who really doesn't care to connect at first.
We are making progress.

Shayla is here this week, so she is helping me with Sophie. It's wonderful to have someone else's perspective and expertise.  We are discovering layers of Sophie's personality. I will go into some of that in another post when I can figure out the words to express it.

I am certain with persistence and gentle hands Sophie will come around, you have such a way with horses. Good to see Shayla and I am sure between you two you will figure it all out.

Sophie makes me think of a horse that has learned to withdraw to keep herself safe. Once you begin to peel back the layers it will be interesting to see.
I haven't watched that post by warwick yet but it's on my list.

That is a great perspective. I used my dog training classes from years ago when I worked with my young mules years ago. It takes a ton of patience and observation of your equine.

I worked with a 25 yr old mule that hated being touched and caught but was fine when saddled. It took me over a year just to figure her out and we became eventually inseparable.

'Can I make him mad or can I make him back off?' I love that comment because that is exactly what this old mule had in mind.

Thank you for such an interesting video!

Nice to have Shayla visiting to share concepts/perspectives! There is value in observing vs doing. Some things can be easier to pick up on and then "hit home". At least for me.

I watched the video, makes total sense. I hope to revisit the detailed link, and all the info that article and site offers. Thanks for sharing, so we can all learn!!

Looking forward to reading your thoughts on a follow-up post.

I have watched a lot of his videos too. very informative. I like the one where he has the horse spinning by just asking like you would for any gait and expecting it to stay until you ask for something else.
