I finally have flowers! My new flower garden has these:
As well as the pincushion flowers and pink snapdragons and pink zinnias that are a bit faded and need to be pruned to promote new blooms. The two roses are taking their time to bud, guess they aren't fond of the cooler rainy weather.
My older flower garden I let the calendula and cosmos that reseeded take over, only new stuff in there are snapdragons and my garden peas which are going to be harvestable soon.
I enjoy having pretties to gaze upon on my walks to the barnyard!
Rally now leads into the trailer perfectly, so I started working on her feet again. She is getting pretty good with her left front, I have nipped it and rasped it, a little at a time. It needs more but its a lot better. Her right front she is more reluctant with, I did get to clean it today. Every day, a little progress. Good thing I'm not in a hurry!
The farrier was here yesterday and did the other 3; she loved Patsy, who was actually pretty good for her first trim. I noticed with Velvet that she cant handle having the farrier put her front feet between the knees for trimming, it cranks her leg out too much angle from her shoulder and her old bones cant take that any more. Velvet is short and wide so there isn't much room under her. I asked the farrier to not do that but to trim her low; it meant she had to do everything one handed as she held the foot but Velvet was much happier. I don't think the farrier was though.

very lovely garden of serenity. 😊❤️
Such pretty flowers, that Snapdragon is a yummy color! Way to go with Rally!!
Old Skye is 37 and her right knee can hardly bend at all, but my farrier is too sweet. He goes down on his knees and holds the foot in his lap to trim <3
37-wow!
I used to trim Beamer kneeling and putting his foot in my lap. I will probably do Velvet myself now, the same way. She has no obvious arthritis, but old bones can ache without it.
Sunset is my fav color Snapdragon! Your flowers are all gorgeous!! I have never heard of "Lavatera". It's got great color & veining. Thought it was a really nice Morning Glory.
For some reason, my reseeding annuals did not come back this year. Even with collected and some new purchased seeds spread. I miss them. Too much rain I guess. Thankful for my perennials.
Glad you spoke up for Velvets sake...I will edit the rest of my comment :))
Love the grazing photo of your happy herd!!
Beautiful summer flowers are such a gift. You have a green thumb with them. You’ve come a long way with Rally in getting to her feet. My farrier used to call them their weapons. He’d say when they give you their weapons it is a huge act of trust. Those conversations were back when I first adopted Beautiful Girl and was gentling her. She is now the best of all my horses with trimming and grooming, standing to get sprayed. Once she figured out what she was supposed to do, it clicked deeply.
I had to rope her right front today to get her to lift it, but she figured it out. I was able to nip some and rasp a little. I have to do everything holding her foot with one hand and nipping with the other; its a good thing I have a set of snall nippers that fit my hand fairly well. I do a little bit every day; eventually those front feet will look half decent. She is a long way from being ready for a farrier though.
I have a father and son who do our trimming and they will do everything it takes to trim for the comfort of the equine. I'm lucky to have found them years ago. Now the son is doing it on his own as his own business. His dad has clients all over and this one stays local.
Your flowers look amazing.
Lavatera is related to hollyhocks. Iy is one of my favourite annuals to grow. I may try hollyhocks next year.
There are a lot of farriers in Alberta, and not all of them are good. I keep trying different ones to find the one I like and my horses like.
I appreciate a farrier who will be kind like that. Your flowers are beautiful!
