Velvet moves to Castor, Ab.

Got an email from Jessie, who bought Velvet from me, and the new owner came to pick her up a couple of days ago. Here is her email:

Hi Shirley,
I just said good bye to Velvet and am terribly sad.  Kristy phoned this morning and said she had time to drive out and pick her up, so although I knew she would go one day, I wasn't prepared to say good bye today.  I spent the morning pampering her, which as you know she just ate up every second of.  I already know that I may have made a terrible mistake by selling her....
She loaded like a pro!!  You would have been so proud of her, I walked her up to the back, circled her around once and let her look in and sniff it a bit then she just stepped in and stood there!!  No backing out, no making a fuss, nothing.  What a good girl!!

She gave me the contact info for Velvet's new owner, so I hope we can stay in touch.

SOunds like she is a great little mare , so sorry Jessie had to let her go, but once the baby comes she will be a busy girl, in time, there wuill be a chance for another.

That's must be hard. I hope Velvet has gone to a nice place.

Oh I feel for her. When she says that she "knows" she may have made a terrible mistake by selling Velvet, my heart just broke for her.
I myself have learned over years of owning horses that you should just keep them. Even if you go through times where you aren't able to ride much/at all. Hang onto to them anyway. They're family. And no matter how hard you try to sell them to good homes- well stuff happens and you just don't know where they'll end up.
Unless you're a Breeder or it's your business to train & sell horses. In other words- I know there are exceptions - but man oh man, I for ME- that is what I learned.
So, I feel for Jesse. I feel her pain. She may very well rue this day and wish she had Velvet back. Bless her heart.

Velvet sure sounds like a nice mare! And so sad when Jesse says she will miss her, but maybe in a few years she will have a chance to get another horse form you when she has more time.

I agree with Deanna--when I let go of a horse my heart told me not to (when I had kids) I never stopped regretting it. I regret it to today. But we do what we feel we have to at the time. :(

It must be so hard to sell horses you've raised. that's one reason I'm not a breeder or trainer, and one big reason I quit the track - it was always so hard for me to see them go elsewhere. I hope she always has a great home and you can keep up with her!
