but it's mild compared to what our neighbours had to deal with last night- the highway crew even called out a loader at 11 pm to try to redirect the mud and water.
View from our driveway.... doesn't look so bad, right? Wrong; check the video.
We drove down the road a ways to see why traffic couldn't get through. Another slide- this one must have been pretty rapid because there was no sign of it yesterday.
The crew had just finished sawing the tree enough to let traffic through.
This is where it came from- and that bank is nowhere near as steep or tall as the bank opposite our driveway.
Our landlord is supposed to be here today with a machine to try to redirect the water flowing past our place. My little dam was no match for the rapid melt, and this is what this morning looks like.
On the bright side- the horse pasture looks great! Good drainage, no major mud anywhere although there is enough for Rosalee to try to disguise her colour. She's a wannabe brunette apparently.
I should be able to get my pens cleaned within a few days- sunny weekend coming up!
I'm 90% certain mama Belle is packing a foal. (Yay!)

Well at least the lake isn't in the horse pens. Something to be grateful for. And so much more fun with 2 foals!
Wow, that is a lot of mud and water. That will be fun to have new foals tho:)
What a mess, so sorry! Truly hope the pending redirection helps ease the drainage off your property. It's good to look at the bright side. The weather certainly doesn't seem to bother your happy-go-lucky mares!! Sunshine will help for sure!
Nasty mess, that. We just got 30 inches of snow, but I'd rather that than slides and flooding. I am so looking forward to pics of the foals!
Wendy, part of the reason for this is the 32 inches of snow we got in February. It is melting really fast and above us are orchards and farm fields, when the water soaks into the ground it follows the path of least resistance and that just happens to be through the bank on the north side of our road. It came through in several places. Where we live is called Goat River Bottom, it's a channel cut by the river over the centuries as the river moved further south leaving flat farmland behind. The photos I posted a while ago of the ice jams on the river are part of that river.
I feel your pain!! Mudslides are so scary. This is a very unusual year. We're working day and night to divert water from inside and around our house. The team yesterday said we are in danger of foundational issues if we don't get this water out of here. I assume they mean the pylons could shift. It's just so scary and awful and we live in a "dry" area!!! Not this year!! Pleae make it go away. So glad your pasture isn't flooded though.
Two foals coming this spring Yeah!! Hope you dry up soon, it is no fun to fight water. Hopefully you can get some permanent berms in place but it probably is just a wet year. we are frozen again. :(
