And here to stay from the look of the forecast, with minus double digits in the forecast for the foreseeable future.
Monday the 18th I turned the mares out on the winter pasture as we had a good hard freeze and their other pen was pretty much chewed down.
Last sunny day, just after the hard freeze.Then the snow came.
There is a major snowstorm supposed to hit starting tonight. Good thing we are prepared!
The birds are busy at the feeders. We have suet for the Downy and Hairy woodpeckers and the Northern Flickers and sunflower seeds for the Chickadees
I hired a different farrier to do the mares as the last young lady's work didn't hold out. Gussie blew out chunks on her hind feet quarter cracks after 5 weeks. The new lady is more experienced and did some corrective maintenance on those cracks. Hopefully this one will work out!
Velvet gave partial approval. She was a bit difficult on the first two feet but relaxed after that. Suck it up, Velvet!
Unfortunately, it looks like any winter riding for me will be on hold for a while. I'm still not 100% and being out in the cold hits me a little harder than I like.
Seems like it is winter all over, hope you are all prepared and can hunker down and get your indoor projects done!

It is a good feeling to be prepared before/when Winter hits. Earlier this week we had a couple windy rainy days that turned into our first white Wintery mix. Just a dusting that didn't stick. Nothing like what the coastal folks got.
I have silly lingering annuals still blooming in pots! Petunias, Allysum, Fuschia, Verbena, Snapdragons, Mums and even some Impatien's (which normally are very tender). While it is nice to still have some color, I would really really like to store my ceramic pots in the garage before the forecasted bitter cold hits!! So hard to pull blooming plants. They get one more week....so yah, I have a few things left to do before Winter.

After your bout with pneumonia the cold air can be really hard to breathe. Gene has a heavy crochet mask that he puts up around his mouth and nose when it is really cold outside. The below zero temps will be here in a week according to our forecast. Stay warm:)
Late blooming flowers are a treat! Enjoy them while you can. I am well enough to go to town as most of that is indoors, it's just the cold air that is hard to handle. But this too shall pass! Thanks for your well wishes.
I have a fleece scarf to buffer the cold air. Mornings are the worst, but I am getting better every day.
One day at a time after pneumonia. I know my husband cannot take any cold air at all with his damaged lungs.
I sure hope you get back to your old self.
Farriers. Sometimes finding an excellent one is pretty hard. We got lucky finally after many years.

Oh wow! It really is winter up there. We’ve had nonstop rain, but if it was a few degrees cooler it would be lots and lots of snow. Snow sure is prettier!
