Beamer has fun in the sun
It warmed up beautifully yesterday (hence my ride on Gussie) and it was warm enough for Beamer to have his blanket off and enjoy the sunshine.
Yeah! About time!
Checking to make sure I got his pose
Let the fun begin!
He did several spectacular rears for me but since I had my telephoto lens on I couldn't capture them because he was too close.
If you are wondering about what I have on his front legs, those are Streamz Bands, to help with his arthritis.
He has started shedding, probably from being blanketed. He gets camelina oil every day too so he has an awesome shiny coat.
Yes Beamer, you are still the handsomest and bestest!

Oh Drifter....
Young horses can be pretty entertaining. Drifter was being so very helpful yesterday.
(Or not.)
What could possibly go wrong here! Wish I had left the video running!
As it tipped he made a hard right turn, jumped one step then walked over to investigate.
(Or not.)
What do we have here?
Lemme see.... how does this thing work....
Hang on, I'll get it....
Hmmm.... Lemme regroup.....
Like this?

A fun Monday
Just for fun, I did the string test on Rosalee to see what gender of foal she is carrying. I'm on a Facebook page called Mare Match Up, and someone posted about it. You suspend a nail on a string, and hold it over the mare's pregnant belly. (Hold your hand still, the nail will move by itself!) If it goes in a circle, it's a filly, if it goes back and forth, it's a colt. Also, they talked about the mare's tailhead- this is a new one to me- once the mare is 8 months pregnant, look at the tailhead; if the hairs are all smooth, it's a colt, and if they are all fuzzy it's a filly.
So- here is the video.....
Now, I don't take this as science, but with two things saying it's a colt, I'd better start thinking up some good colt names! I already had a filly name picked.
Also, Beamer was telling me he wanted to get out and go for a ride, so- off we went!
That's for Sarah who asked for more virtual rides on Beamer.
We checked the river- no ice jams this year! In fact, the strong flow of the river has kept the water table low and our pond is pretty much gone for now.
We followed a quad trail; it was a beautiful peaceful ride through the woods. I'm enjoying this warm weather, but I think it is supposed to clear off and get colder by Friday- but that's okay, at least it will be sunny!

It's beginning to look....
a lot like Christmas!
We are getting a heavy snowfall, just in time for Christmas - perfect!
My boy had to get out and perform for me.....
He was having a blast!
Funny guy, looks like he is trying to catch snowflakes!
For all you puzzle fans, here is a tough one. 200 pieces.

Sunday Stills- Glare
The glare of the sun was most welcome on the 2 or 3 days it showed up last week. Between the sun and the rain, all the snow is gone and the frost is out of the ground.
Taking photos facing into the sun is challenging, but can also come up with some shots with lots of ambience.
I'm really enjoying this mild winter, although I know that folks back east didn't get such a mild winter; I have to say I feel blessed to live where I do.
I took this one just for fun, Josie's eye with the sun glare .

Sunday Stills: Post
Post... posting... post office... going postal... hmmm. I'll stick to the original meaning.
One of the posts for my hitching rail, Thumper was considerate enough to pose on the post to make this post more interesting!

What a hoot!
I have been having some fun with the jigsaw puzzles over on Punkin Patch's blog so I thought I'd try one on here. This Great Horned owl and its mate are hanging out here, I really hope they nest here.
Have fun!
Have fun!

Fun in the sun
Yesterday was so beautiful, you could almost hear the grass growing, the sun was hot, everything is growing like crazy. I have flowers! Only the violets are blooming right now, but the daffodils will pop soon.
All the horses got turn out time, I was hoping that Delia would roll and get rid of most of that mud on her but no, she was more interested in eating, and once in a while keeping up with Josie's wind sprints.
The bosal shaped up nicely, I'll rig it up today, and if the weather cooperates I'll ride her today. Sideways rain this morning! But I see blue sky peeking out.

Outtakes
I always try to get good photos, - you know, well centred, correctly proportioned , good lighting, interesting subject, etc.
Well I actually like some of my outtakes - the ones that don't have all the horse in the photo, or something is just a little off. Like these:
In this one. Kai's ears are cut off- but it helps to focus on his beautiful eye.
In this next one, I was focused on Kai, on the left, as he galloped away, when Rio ran into the picture, resulting in only half the photo in focus.
Here I was panning along with Josie and Rio as they were goofing around, I like the angle Josie is on as it makes her look like she is just "dropping in". I could have cropped it from the withers forward, but decided to leave it as is.
In this one, I was trying to focus on Tess as she watched the horses, but instead got the grass in focus- an interesting oops!
This photo, I was trying to get Josie and Kai in full flight; I like the stretched out photos, but in this one they are all tight and goofy- but it does express their personalities. Grab a mouthful of grass, and dance around being silly!
Had to add in one more that I took early this morning. This is Beamer's girlfriend who was enjoying the early morning rays- darned if she didn't close her eyes just as I snapped the photo- but it adds to the sleepy morning vibe.

Sunday Sillies
Hoffmans minerals are an important part of my feeding program. I think it's a good part of why Kai is looking normal after only one month; his body score is great, he is shiny and has lost all those tufts of winter hair that were hangin' in there.
I think Kai agrees.
