Got my Sunday ride in today, on Gussie(the people who had her for the last two years called her Sunday) and a good ride it was- with one exception: note to self! Put the border collies in their kennel when riding in the round pen! That circling movement is just too much for them, it triggers their desire to work- Tess went in for a hit when we were loping and Gussie tried hard to jump sideways and lope at the same time and nearly went down. A cutting horse she is not- Chickory would probably have accomplished the move and been 10 feet in to the center of the pen! And me still along the rail! But, she kept her feet, good girl. Went for a ride down the road after that and did something I've been hoping for, we got that little soft jog that is such a pleasure to ride. I checked the web today for photos of her grandsire, Blueboy Quincy, and found this one:
Doesn't he look like Velvet??? He died in 2008, and he stood 16.1hh.
Velvet
Gussie's sire,
Docs Choctaw Sabre, was also there. I'm really enjoying Gussie, the more I ride her the more fun she is, and loving mares like I do it sure is nice to have one to ride again.
We are having perfect weather here, not too hot and not too wet, and the grass is amazing. I noticed today while I was riding that the grass was tickling Gus's face, and she's a big mare. It was coming up to my knees when we rode in the hayfield.
Sure hope the farmers get a good stretch of hot weather to put up the first cut of hay.

Just caught up! You yellow shots are beautiful, but what I really love, are the picutures of Rio, Beamer and Chickory. Gorgeous...all of them.
Our neighbour runs a Blueboy Quincy stud.....he's great. They catch him at branding for the kids to ride.
When I was showing, I heard people say that the Quincy Dan horses were tough minded, but the best mare I will ever own in my life was a Quincy Dan bred mare. She was opinionated (as are her sons) and tough as nails in a good way. They just seem to be smart (don't want all that 'show crap' done to them) and like to work.
So...I guess that means Gussie and my barrel horse, Moon are sorta, kinda related. LOL
I hate it when a horse jumps out from underneath me like you said Chickory would have done. I just can't figure out how to sit that sideways kind of move.
Glad that Gus didn't do that and kept her feet. Good girl!
I had a Quincy Dan gelding--raised him from a weanling--the best horse I ever had. SMART and SAFE.
My family owned blue (bluboy quincy) when he died and for several years previous to that no words could explain how wonderful of a horse he really was.
Salena, thanks for visiting. I've always heard what a wonderful horse he was, I even saw him once when he was in Alberta. A truly beautiful horse. Gussie has a wonderful temperament, and is one of the smoothest quarter horses I've ever ridden. I'd love it if you would share some stories with me about Blueboy Quincy, if you email me I would be delighted if you would do a guest post. My email address is on my sidebar under Sale Barn. The blue colt , Choctaw Peppy in Sale Barn is also a son of Gussie and Beamer.
