We are still under a heavy snowfall warning here, it reminds me of the relentless rain we had in the fall that turned my corrals from dust to boot sucking mud, and now we have 16 inches of snow in the last 3 days, and snow in the forecast for the next week.
I had the 2 wheel drive pick up today while Ted was out of town working- he had the 4 wheel drive- and I didn't even bother trying to get it out of the yard to go to work; I walked the 5 kilometers (3 miles) instead. At least it isn't cold and windy- in fact it's trying to rain right now.
The mares aren't too impressed with the massive volumes of snow that slide off the roof of their shelter.
Me neither! I had to shovel a path through that so I could get the poop out to the pile, which you can barely see on the right. The mares were out in the safety of their paddock, and weren't coming in until I had a trail for them.
Gussie has such an expressive face, doesn't she? Check out those baby bellies....
I chased them back in, slogging through snow up to my boot tops.
They made use of their newly shovelled entrance.
Belle was more suspicious and was hanging back- she's the first one to run when the snow starts sliding. I went back out a couple hours later and had to shovel it out again, and again the mares were out in their paddock. I may have to change things around and let Rio in with them so they can come and go from the safety of the end of the shelter where the snow doesn't slide. I think with 3 pregnant mares, they would tune on Rio if he started any shenanigans- I'll think about it, but I'd rather give the girls a safe way out of their shelter than worry about what they would do to Rio- might even be good for him.
Not much to look at out there except whiteness! Sure hope we get a little sunshine, it would be great for photos.
