Enough snow for now!

We are still under a heavy snowfall warning here, it reminds me of the relentless rain we had in the fall that turned my corrals from dust to boot sucking mud, and now we have 16 inches of snow in the last 3 days, and snow in the forecast for the next week.
I had the 2 wheel drive pick up today while Ted was out of town working- he had the 4 wheel drive- and I didn't even bother trying to get it out of the yard to go to work; I walked the 5 kilometers (3 miles) instead. At least it isn't cold and windy- in fact it's trying to rain right now.
The mares aren't too impressed with the massive volumes of snow that slide off the roof of their shelter.
Me neither! I had to shovel a path through that so I could get the poop out to the pile, which you can barely see on the right. The mares were out in the safety of their paddock, and weren't coming in until I had a trail for them.
Gussie has such an expressive face, doesn't she? Check out those baby bellies....
I chased them back in, slogging through snow up to my boot tops.
They made use of their newly shovelled entrance.
Belle was more suspicious and was hanging back- she's the first one to run when the snow starts sliding. I went back out a couple hours later and had to shovel it out again, and again the mares were out in their paddock. I may have to change things around and let Rio in with them so they can come and go from the safety of the end of the shelter where the snow doesn't slide. I think with 3 pregnant mares, they would tune on Rio if he started any shenanigans- I'll think about it, but I'd rather give the girls a safe way out of their shelter than worry about what they would do to Rio- might even be good for him.
Not much to look at out there except whiteness! Sure hope we get a little sunshine, it would be great for photos.

Wow that sure is pretty I know how hard it can be to do chores in a lot of snow but I just love seeing it. I would walk that too I do hope it slows down a little for you.
Wow it is pretty we finally have snow I look forward to the sun coming up and seeing how the calves like it. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Hug B

Lots of whiteness. I think we have about the same amount. I'll bet the ski hill isn't showing rocks anymore. Lots of fools in the ditch when we went to town yesterday.....they just never learn!!!!!!

bleh. that's exactly the way our area looked for 2 days. fortunately, we got rain to wash most if it away. i like snow, but not if it lasts long, and is wet and heavy. no thanks.

Wow. That's a lot of snow. We rarely get snow but if it ever got cold enough we would have as much as you since all we get is moisture.
Every few years we will get about a foot but it melts in a couple days then makes a huge mess.
I think it's very pretty though and makes for good photo opportunities!

We got that snow too... I wanted some snow on the ground for Christmas, but I think mother nature has taken it a little too far! Our snow is so deep in the pasture that the mini donkeys can't negotiate through it, so they have to stick to the trails that the big girls have made...funny as all get out to see them making there way anywhere as it takes them a while, but they sure would put any mouse in a maze to shame with the way they can work those trails! :0)
Love the snowy fence photo!!

Such spoiled ponies you have! Mine have no she, just a windbreak and they don't seem to mind (of course if they do mind nothin can be done, lol) Sure looks prettier with snow than mud that's for sure!

wow! we got 2-3 inches which is still on the ground, and the weather and roads were scary enough that I didn't make it to seattle for Christmas. Now we have another big storm coming, and since I'm home and don't have to go anywhere, I say, Bring it On!
Not sure what our horses have to say about it though...
