The ides of March

Not much to beware, just to be weary of. It snowed overnight, and it's been raining most of the day, so the yard and pastures are slush soup.  Beamer wasn't too impressed this morning.
Belle and Rio weren't about to leave the snug shelter, but Chickory and Gussie didn't care about the wet- they were out checking for tasty morsels under the snow.
Once I had their hay out though, they were content to line up and bury their noses in its fresh scent and happily munched away in the dryness of the horse shelter.
Yes, that third horse from the left is Rio- at 11 months he is almost as tall as 4 yr. old Chickory, but a long way to go yet. One thing about  this weather- they shouldn't have any issues going through mud out on the trail. Gussie came galloping in the other day, mud flying- she thought she might get a handful  of oats, and that overrides mud any day!
The dogs are always willing to get out no matter what the weather, and Tess was sure I might need a little help.
The horse dentist is coming Saturday- unless the roads are closed between here and Alberta- and I'm going to get Gussie done. I'll get her branded at the same time. At least it isn't really cold out, and even though it's white and wet, we are only days away from the Spring Solstice, and this weather can't last forever. But it's in the forecast for the next week. Sighhhhhhhhhh......

We had our huge dump of snow in that storm last week Tuesday and since Thursday the melt has been on. I'm hoping in a couple weeks the arena will be dry enough to get the tractor in so I can work up the ground :) Still, its mid March so who knows what the weather will bring.
I bet that rain is helping your snow melt :)

We got a little rain overnight, but nothing like there and over at the Rough String.

March has been less than enjoyable here... Raining to beat the band right now with everyone looking like a drown rat. My poor equines, I keep telling them April will be better.

Well it sure looks wintery there! It has been really nice here for quite a while, +18 today. Sure wishing I had a spot at home to keep the ponies up so I could ride out.

I can't believe Rio is almost a year old, has it been a year already? :-)

Tyrone saw the photo of Rio feeding with the mares and said "he's a big horse now?" Guess he is.
