Back in December, my sister and I traveled to Kamloops to see my dad, whose health was failing. We said our goodbyes then, not knowing how much longer he had. He passed away on Thursday night.
He had Lewy Body dementia, and for the last 4 years, he changed from the vibrant spitfire we knew, and slipped away peacefully in the company of his wife of over 42 years. Even though his passing was expected, it still fills me with sadness. There won't be a funeral for him, but we will have a family gathering in the summer.
Today I said a different kind of goodbye- Chickory headed to her new home in Alberta.
She's about 6 weeks away from foaling, and I'm kind of sad I don't get to be there for it. But she will have a good life where she's going.
Life is all about change- death, birth, day to day events.... it's not about what could have been, it's about what lies ahead, and living each day to the fullest.

Shirley I am so sorry about your Dad. ....one is never ready for that. It is good you got to say good-bye.
I hope Chicory's new owner will send foal pics. I'm betting she has a beautiful colored baby.
it is sad that dad passed. but, on the other hand, he isn't suffering anymore. he was a very fiesty dad, and a very loving dad. he'll be praying for all of us now. i only think of the way he was before the dementia got a hold of him. that's how i'll rememeber dad. :) i pray for those who are afflicted by all forms of dementia.
chickory, hope you enjoy sunny alberta! there is definitely alot of it there, and big sky country:)

Sorry to hear of your dad passing. It is hard to say goodbye, no matter the circumstances. I admire your strength & outlook on life.
So sorry about your Dad, it's a terrible thing to lose a parent. I hope your family get together in the summer will be a joyous one.
It must have been very hard also, to say goodbye to Chickory, especially with her being so close to foaling. Sure hope you can get some pictures of the baby.

I am so sorry Shirley, deaths are never easy..but you are right..the world keeps on turning and everyday we wake up on the right side of the grass is a good one:)

So sorry to hear about your dad's passing...I know you will cherish every moment were able to spend with him in December. I hope the family gathering in the summer is a celebration of his life.
Chickory is so hugely pregnant her belly barely fits on that trailer!

it is good that you know your chickory is going to a good home. so manhy times when animals change hands that is an unknown....
