Since I have been doing all the initial work, this time it was Shayla who started working him. Walk up to him in the pen and not the classroom, catch him, pick up all his feet, sack him out with the rope, lead him. Mission accomplished!

Loving this colt more every day! He seems to advance every day. Today (Day 8) he let me catch him while he was eating his ration, and pick up all four feet, hold them by the toe and circle the leg as I lowered it to the ground. No snatching his leg away or getting upset. We should be able to get his feet trimmed within a few days. Also he let Shayla deworm him yesterday, and this morning she was petting him while cleaning his pen, without him walking away.

Good work! I love it that our paths are mirroring one another! I can learn by watching you, and it's a great motivator! He's a good boy not to snatch his feet away. His training will be caught up with Tumbleweed in like a day. Tumbleweed had the farrier yesterday and did great on his right side, but not his left. Tweed has a bit of a temper sometimes. Apparently, Drifter doesn't?
It's good for the young ones (any horse really) to have more then one person working with them in a similar approach. You are a good mentor Shirley!! It's so cute in the first video how at the end Drifter shows Shayla affection. He is becoming trusting so quickly, and clearly likes both his owners.

What fun to watch this young feller become tame so quickly! I am wonder ing what color he is and what color he will end up being. Was he white when he was born? He looks like he will be a palomino?
Wendy- he is palomino but since his daddy is a roan it is possible that he is also a roan, which would explain all that white hair- but it could also just be his baby coat. He should shed out the colour of his legs and face but we won't see that until next spring.
