I was pretty proud of Gussie; she did a good job especially when I asked her to pull... which we had to do often! When little Drifter plants those front feet and spreads his hinds there is no moving him!
There was one more time when I had to dismount and lead Drifter with the rope around his butt to get him to go forward, and that was at these cement blocks. This is not the set Gussie gives the hairy eyeball to, but one that has rocks piled on them and I guess that was just too much for Drifter! Once we got going again he was really good.
Back at the hitchin' rail he was happy to just stand and soak up the rays of the setting sun. Thumper came along and visited so I plunked him up on Gussie.
Sure was a nice day! I hope next time I take Drifter out it won't be so much work!

What an awesome experience for lil Drifter! Love that first picture with his brakes on! :) Yep, gettin those feet moving is the only way to unstick him. You're doing such good work with your kids...and that Gussie! What a good mare she is!
This has been the most amazing year weather-wise. Aside from the super hot summer that is. But this fall is almost unbelievably perfect. Just wondering what our winter's going to be like? Guess we'll see before long.

You are fortunate to have such nice weather. Ours usually mirrors, but apparently not this season. November hasn't been bad, just below average cold. Drifter sure is a quiet guy. He may not have the mindset for faster disciplines. You & Gussie did great getting him moving. Another pair of hands, or set of feet, would have come in handy. Cute watching him look around and think about going over the down tree. What a great learning experience!
I love it. You’re so patient with him. Pokeyman. 😂 I need to pony T now that he’s fully recovered. I think I’ll use Foxy for that. So much catch up to do though. I need to have them stand tied together every day like you’re doing. And I need to introduce another horse to them. I almost did Cowboy on Monday, but things were too wound up with me having been gone for the week. Maybe today.
Aurora, apparently Drifter is a good example of the Driftwood bloodline. They like to think things over and once they get it, don't need to be shown again. Also, the original Driftwood was known as Speedy and most of the horses of this bloodline are good rodeo and timed event horses, so the speed is there, it just needs to develop!
Linda, I bet Foxy will be quite happy to have someone else in there for Tumbleweed to pester!
