Ohhh Shirley, I am so sorry to see Belle has passed away. The end of an era. She produced such incredible babies, a perfect match with Beamer. I always wished for one, particularly Rio. Not sure what happened to your girl, as I haven't been spending time online. For some reason I checked Blogger quick today. I thought your beloved Belle had the summer to enjoy more of your tender loving care. So glad she returned to be with you in her time of need. Your Belle tribute is beautiful! What an special mama she was <3 I hope you are doing okay, and her BFF Gussie is also. Sending {{hugs}} with water-filled eyes.
Thanks Aurora. A couple years ago her knee on her good leg developed arthritis, and it got to the point last summer where she wasn't wanting to put weight on it. I tried everything I could think of to ease her pain, but nothing worked well enough to justify my selfish desire to keep her any longer. She started compensating so much in her body that she was all twisted. It was time, unfortunately. She left us a great legacy in her foals. Only 2 of them are going on to carry on her blood- the buckskin colt Scooter, and the first foal, Sparkle N Peppy aka Jazz who has produced a filly of her own and is being bred to a blue roan stallion.
I was so sad to see this pop up just now. She was a great one, as was demonstrated through her excellent foal crop. My first interest in your horses were a couple of hers. Sadly, Tumbleweed is not, because I would have LOVED to have had one of hers. At least he has Beamer as his daddy.
I can't imagine how hard this is for you right now. Doing the right thing sure isn't easy when it comes to our horses. The tribute was beautiful, and appropriately silent. No words needed.
Run in green pastures in no more pain Mama Belle! Shirley, it must have been very hard for you to say goodbye one final time. Thinking of you and Ted and the rest of the herd. So sorry:(

What a lovely mare. I’m so sorry that you lost her.
Losing such a beautiful animal is always so difficult.
The tribute was beautiful.
Sending hugs to you and Ted during this sad time.
So sorry to read that you lost Belle. I feel almost as if I know your horses from the stories and photos you share. So sad.
Thanks everyone. It is good to know that you all appreciated her too.
