Christmas checklist:
Baking- almost done
Viennese crescents and chocolate chip cookies.
Most of those will go in the freezer to be brought out if we have company.
Tree is up...

We have been back in the deep freeze the last few days- we had a short reprieve on Dec. 10th so took the opportunity to set the mares up with a new bale, they went 5 weeks on their last one.
New bale! Lets go see!
I set this one up with a half bale feeder around it so they don't destroy it like the last one- this one should last a little longer.

Those old mares are in fine shape, they have a lot of room to move, a hill to climb for their morning grain, unlimited hay and winter grazing. They are holding their weight well and the cold doesn't seem to be bothering them. I prefer not to blanket, unless it is cold, wet and windy, and even then I could open up the barn for them.

Oh your Beamer clock is really special!! Stay warm! We are having Christmas tomorrow with the Grands...so hope they eat most of the baked cookies and candy!
Love your cat next to the tree. Love the tree, very nice shape. I was told we had too much food Thanksgiving so will try not to cook as much for Christmas. Still lots of shopping but I think I will quit decorating.
Your home looks so festive and pretty. And thst hay is gorgeous. Mine would get so fat on that, lol. But maybe not if we had your temperatures!

Your house looks amazing. That Beamer clock is really special. The girls look awesome, as does their hay! They live a good life, and I’m with you on blanketing. The worst is rain and cold. Snow doesn’t bother them one bit. They are so lucky to be able to graze in winter. I might let mine do that, too. I used to let them, but somewhere I started closing them off all winter, and I’m not sure why.
It is pretty much straight grass hay. These mares have feed available 24/7, so they never binge feed. They eat the way a range horse would.
It's interesting that even with hay available they still wander out and paw as long as the snow isn't too deep and crusty.
Yes, I’m sure my horses would love to go out and find whatever they can. It’s just in their nature.
