South wind

There is a south wind blowing, with snow swirling around the mountains all around us, but it's not coming out onto the flats where we are. Some folks are burning off their old grass and one fire got away and burned down a hayshed full of alfalfa, as well as a nearly new tractor; they got the old combines out, but not the tractor. It's right next door to where I work, and seeing all the smoke on my way to work I almost thought I would see fire there!
No riding today, but I have been putting around on Beamer most days, just keeping him legged up. The cattle sorting died off when Bill had his stroke, he was the leader and no one stepped up to fill his boots.
Coyote Belle is starting to make bag, so stay tuned; I'm going to have another "guess the foaling time and date" contest! Anything to make things more exciting is great while we all wait (not so) patiently for spring.

Spring! I wouldn't mind a little spring It went from the high teens the day before yesterday to the high thirties today. *sweats* I'm deacclimated to this!

Grass fires are scary , even when you plan them they can get away awfully quick if the wind comes up.Too bad about the hay and equipment , but at least no one was injured I hope .

Ooo I guess the two inches of snow we got tuesday night wasnt so bad after all, keeps the ground wet and safe ffrom fire for a while.

No one was hurt in the fire. The person responsible is going to be hurting in his wallet though.

Love your new header pic, and judging from Beamer's rippling muscles I'd say he's keeping "legged up" just fine lol

I hate when they do burns across the river and could never really understand the need of it. We've been getting horses legged up for calving around here.

That just seems weird to be burning grass. That's too bad about the farmer guy. I'm glad noone was hurt, though.

Gorgeous photo, too.

I'm sorry about the cattle sorting and Bill. Bummer.

Lisa, people burn off the old dead grass believing that it brings on the new growth quicker. I think it damages the new growth, IMHO.
