This story starts at a horse auction, the September long weekend of 2008. My husband and I were on a camping tour and stopped at Innisfail to watch the auction. There was a box of kittens looking for homes, and Jack Daines, the auctioneer, boomed out that no one was going home until all the kittens were taken. Ted had sent me to the concession, and I came back with a kitten. He shook his head-No! So I put it back and picked out another one. Once again- No! Then he sent me to the concession again, and I picked out a third kitten. Well, this time he took one look, and said, "Oh all right!"
This is what captivated him:
We originally named him Jack, after the persistent auctioneer. Over time, as he grew...and grew... and grew... (he topped out at 17 pounds) he got called Mr. Chubs, which became Chubby Bubby, and eventually Bubby which became his name. As well as Lumpster, Fat Man, etc.
He was fearless around the horses, he'd follow us out to the pasture, and would even lay on the horse's back.
He travelled well, as we moved around from place to place he adapted quite well.12 different places, to be exact.
His favorite place to lay and relax was on Ted's belly; whenever Ted lay on the couch to watch TV it was certain that within minutes, Bubby would claim his spot- and shortly after, they'd both be asleep!Over the last year, he started losing weight, and it was plain that his body was shutting down.
Today, I laid him to rest, beneath the willow tree on the west side of Beamer's pen; in line with the setting sun.
He will be missed.

Goodbye Bubby, Sweet boy,I only ever saw that lovely boy the one time, but he was a great cat. And clearly much loved.
It's amazing how big a hole they leave behind. He was a beautiful friend. We just lost ours after 18 yrs. May they find a huge pasture full of the fatest rodents!! :)
Nobody could've said no to that little face. Those eyes...what a great cat he must have been. I don't care what any one says they are all different and unique and special. I am sorry. Bye bye Bubba.
I'm so sorry Shirley (and Ted) He was a beautiful cat, with a short but love filled life.

Bye for now Jack (he will always be Jack to me)...see you sometime down the road. I'll have a treat sitting for you on the edge of the kitchen table.

Awe. The third time was the charm and he looks like he had a charmed life. What a handsome, sweet boy... I am tearing up (I adore cats... I have owned cats my entire life.) My husband is mildly, mildly allergic and we have two (see how I sacrificed?!) My heart goes out to you...
Dang animals that get under our skin and cause us to have wet itchy eyes! My son had a cat as a child who was an exact twin for Bubby. Sorry for the loss.
Tearily, I say I'm sorry. He looks to be my Mike Madison Cat's brother, with Long hair. I cried for months after he passed, he was my sweetie.
Ted, & you had a gem in him, him liking the horses too cool.
Bubby rest In peace sweet kitty, our hearts will be warmed always, with your precious memory.
