Sunday Stills

Interesting challenge this week:
The challenge this week is for you to post a couple of pictures……..one bad and one good of the same sort of subject. Do a critic of your own work.
So here goes:
The bad- ears wonky, and a distracting pole in the background.

Better- shot from a lower angle to eliminate the pole, and the tongue gives a focal point and adds humor. Ears still wonky but draw the eye from one horse to the other.

The bad- nice light but poor angle.
Better- the light isn't as good, but the angle of the shot is more interesting.

I absolutely love the fourth shot - gorgeous!

I like your critic! I've ruined more shots because of some distraction in the background (*)&)&)(#&$! Irritates me when I do that. You always get great actions shots!

I agree about the ears in both shots. They do lead from one to the other in the second and I like that. Thanks for sharing that! I always love your running shots. The second is nicely composed.

Very nice! I see what you mean about the difference of angle. I actually like all four pictures.

Fun shots.

I think on the last one...if I would have been shooting it...I would have wanted more negative space in front of the horse and less to the right (behind). Would have given him room to run so to speak.

Lovely horses!

...and the fence line in the last photo leads your eye right on through and the little grassy patch in front does too. LOVE his mane in this shot (and the sliver of light on his shoulder)

the last photo, I like how the hair on his neck (is there a special name?) is standing up?

Hi Ann, that hair is called the mane.
This is my mare, Chickory.

Is it Chickory with the good lighting, too? Does she have dorsal stripes on the back of her legs? I love the lighting--too bad the angle wasn't better.

I notice I am really bad about focusing on the subject I miss the background. The digital with the screen helps quite a bit, but still not good at seeing the whole pic!
Just catching up and Rio is sure growing up, not so much a baby anymore is he?
