The guys were just a-hummin' along, pounding in the corral posts-including this nice stout gate post. Then things kind of went south ,
when they had to go through the low ground.
The post pounder was buried , the hitch and boom dragging in the mud. They tried winching it out with the little tractor, but it wasn't heavy enough,
so it was my pretty red truck to the rescue. After that, things went well again,
but of course , the girls had to supervise.
Meanwhile, to cool off the dogs, and keep them out of the way, we went over to the pond and I threw sticks in for them to retreive. They love this game, and it is a good way to clean Tess up after she rolls in the cow poop!
I have to hold Tess back to give Reba a chance to get the stick- Tess just bounds into the water, and tries to grab it from her if I don't!
We played with the basketball too. This picture shows really well how Tess works Reba and not the ball. She does this no matter what we play with; instead of watching what I throw, she watches Reba and works her. Can't wait to get her back on sheep, but probably won't happen til next year.
I took the opportunity to hop on Gussie bareback and halter, for a little putt around the pasture.

I just love the way collies work , it does not matter if basketball, horses, goats and even when our spot gets the chance children
they just have such an inbuilt work ethic
PS do you ever find you have to make them stop working ? so they will empty thier bladder as that seems to come after work

Steve, yesterday I had to put Reba in the barn, she thought she could spend the day working the horses when I wasn't waching. And she usually waits until I tell her to go pee, in case she misses something!
I am jealous of the new fence! Man I need one, could you send them my way next!?!?!
The dogs were having so much fun! My Aussie is obessed with working or whatever it is you are doing. Throwing sticks, herding children, horses, cows, chickens, balls, etc. She too will not take a break unless we put her in the trailer. And she will not pee or poop in the trailer, I have to tell her! I have seen her almost pass out, but she wasn't going to quit! (she may miss something!) I know alot of people who need to take lessons from our dogs work habits! LOL! Borders and Aussies defintely are not lazy! I know when I feed in the morning and evenings if the horses are slow coming up (or if Shelby thinks they are) she goes out there and herds them right on up! Just cracks me up!
Bareback time-WOO HOO! Nothing like it!

I'm going off on a tangent, but when I saw these pictures, I realized something had been overlooked by those of us who visit your blog: the sky. I'll bet you get a clear and beautiful view of every star in the sky at nighttime. Surrounded by trees, that must be an awesome sight!
Tom, the night sky here is beautiful.We are far away from the big cities, so there is no glow from them, just the pure beauty of the stars and moon. And, occasionaly, the Aurora Borealis,the Northern Lights.
