Fastening rope halters

I had a request on how to properly fasten rope halters, and here to model for you is Beamer. I'll show the right way and the wrong way, and show why it's the wrong way.

The right way

To start, when you run the rope through the loop, that's when you snug it up, so that you don't have to adjust it after it's tied.

The wrong way

Then you run the end under the loop, from the back to the front.
Right way

Wrong way

Then feed the tail of the loop back through;
Right way

Wrong way

And pull it tight.
Right way

Wrong way

Here is a video to show you why its the wrong way.

Thank you for that,
Its a peeve of mine to see them tied incorrectly, with the explosion of people using these halters now it is so important to recognize the need for the right knot as well as the safety of the tool (as it were)

Good to know! I didn't know this, but I do apparently tie them properly. I never thought about it. I looked at the pictures closely, lol, and was tying in my mind.
Excellent post!!

I also do a quick release knot on it that works the same way.
I used to make rope halters all the time. Useful things they are.

I always forget to snug them up then they always seem too loose, so I went back to my nylon and leather halters.

Now can you show the correct placement of a saddle in regard to the withers?

Thanks for the halter tips.

I don't tie mine either of those ways. Guess I better look closer and see what the heck I'm doing. LOL

I had to go out to the barn and tie one to see if I was doing it right...glad I was. But, I didn't realize what could happen with the wrong way...excellent lesson.

Thanks! I was taught the right way, but was never told about the wrong way, and the loosening.
