Busy (me) and Lazy (Mesa)

Things have been pretty busy here with yard care, tracking down my winter's hay supply, picking and drying stinging nettle, setting up more electric fence pasture and hiding from the heat. So not a lot of horse time other than morning and evening chores. I am still on foal watch- I really hate not having a due date for Belle!

First load of nettle
Hung up to dry in the barn
I still have another farm to go to to pick another load.
Mesa is so funny, every evening around 9 PM she gets the zoomies, which I get to watch from my camper trailer as I prepare to settle in for the night's foal watch. I wish I could video it! She goes flat out and stops on a dime. Such an athletic little girl!
This morning when I got up, she was in her favourite snooze spot, right beside the fence for the foaling pen, and at the base of an elderberry tree.

I really think at weaning time we aren't going to have much separation anxiety with her, she spends more time with Rosalee than with her mama, and always hangs out near Belle when she can.
The reason for that 4X6 on the ground is to keep little critters from getting caught under the fence when they lie down there.

Check out Belle's colour, she is in her sooty buckskin phase.

When I went down to do chores an hour later, Mesa was still in the same spot, dozing in the early morning sun.
"Whaaaaat? It's too early to get up I partied  zoomed pretty late last night!"

So I sat with her for a bit while she held court with her adoring fans.

What are you doing with the nettles? Hope that Belle pops that baby out soon...she sure is big!

I use nettles for Beamer's arthritis. He gets a concoction of nettles, burdock root, dandelion root and cider vinegar over 2 cups of alfalfa pellets every day.

I was wondering the same thing about the nettles. Love the close-up of Mesa!
