(Rio isn't sweating; I had just hosed him off)
The Cavalier was a little too big for Rio
Although he looks like a big boy, he is only a yearling and his head is too small for this mask, you can see the velcro tab sticking out. So I tried it on Gussie, and put Beamer's old mask on Rio which fit much better.
Gussie welcomed the new mask....
but thinks I should get Mrs. Mom to add a shoo fly fringe to the bottom of it.
Meanwhile, the rest of the crew has to use tails for shoo fly protection.
Edited to add:
Felt sorry for Belle and Chickory today, so went and got masks for them too:
Belle got one like Beamers- it's the biggest one I can find. And Chickory got a pretty coloured one:

The poor animals sure have to suffer with all those flies. Is there anything you could wipe their faces with? I remember having to use some sort of gnat repelling wipe around Gypsy's eyes when I took her to Fort Benton with me one summer.
There is, but it doesn't seem to deter these pests, I swear they are immune!
poor horsies! soon fall will come!!!
I really like the mask you got Beamer. I'm going to look for a few over here, they look like they offer better vision than the ones I have now. Our nasty little bugs make it a necessity to have ear protection!!
Flies are terrible here too
You have way more than we do.I fear those masks wouldn't last more than a few minutes around here.
I bet they welcomed the relief, the little pests are relentless...
I finally gave up trying to keep the masks on the horses! They find some way to get them off everytime!
I dont like those kind of fly masks, they only cover the eyes and it seems my horses are more bugged by the nose flies than anything else. i keep meaning to call CNJ and get her to make me some with noses. But luckily my ponies have a shed this year to hide in and keep some of the bugs away.
My stupid horses play let's see how fast we can rip each other's masks off so I've given up :-/.
Nice Fly faces mask's. My sis just took a dish towel(ribboned)and Velcro to the bottom of her flay mask for the nose. Semms to provide a moving obstacle for those pesky flies.
Yes they need some shoo fly thingy attachments..I feel so sorry for them. What ever dangles or moves will chase those flies away. In the olden days they used to make make whole sets to cover the body and belly of work horses:)
