How High is the Water, Mama?
While many places in the US are suffering from drought and out of control wildfires, here it's the water that has our attention. Fortunately, the rain has stopped, and water levels have stabilized or receded. Here is a look at some of the water close to our place. In this photo, you can see the dyke, behind the power pole. Those white bits close to the road, where the road disappears, are the buildings on our farm.
That dyke is holding back this:
The white building amongst the trees on the right side of the photo is the big shop at our place. You can see it better in this photo:
I figure the level of this water is about 10 ft. above the level of the land we live on. I keep telling myself the dyke is well built, and won't fail. One bonus to all this water is that the wetlands are replenished, and the ducks are loving it. So are the mosquitoes- hatching season is upon us! So every evening I'll be lighting the smudge pot for the horses.

Glad you are OK so far - please send some of that rain our way - I can't remember the last time we had rain.
That's a lot of water! I hate the mosquitoes that come from this. The rain(hail) we had last month has loosed mad hoards of skeeters. It is darn right unpleasant to work outside.

eww! You do have a lot of water there too! I am hoping by the time I get back the mosquitos will all have dried up from hot weather.
hey Shirley! Thats some water there! It`ll hold! As for the mosquitoes, sorry cant help I`m afraid, but we have the dreaded Scottish midge! Kill one, and a thousand come to its bloody funeral!!
I think I'd rather have the moisture than the drought and fires. Stay out of the mud is you can. We had 1.5 inches and the skeeters are horrible.
Wow, that's a lotta water!! Wish you could send some of it our way. We are having drought and firestorms.
Wow. That is a lot of water. That is more then what we have and it has rained almost every day in June!! But most rainy days are just showers, not torrential down pours, which we have also had in between all the others.
Hope the dike holds as well. Too much water!!
Yeesh! Thats scary. You can send me some rain. We are in a serious drought here.
You can keep it!!!! we are finally drying up some...although there is still a lot of standing water around yet.The mosquitos are relentless.

Yes, you would still be looking for lovely photos, and getting them. But yes, lets hope that dyke is well made!
