Coulee is settling in fairly well. Cows on one side of her, Beamer on the other, a nice big shelter, free choice grass hay, minerals salt and water- what's not to love?
..... especially with all that luscious grass! I hand grazed her for about 20 minutes today. Yes, that little electric fence is all that is between Beamer and the mare. He didn't come any closer. Good boy!
I saddled her up (my saddle fits, yay!) and put her in the round pen to see where she is at. The first thing I notice is that she is really stiff in the neck laterally; I had to take the side of the halter to bring her nose around to her side- both ways. Also checked movement in her jaw when I saw that and she needs her teeth done, her mouth is all locked up, not much grinding movement at all poor girl.
I had her walk trot and lope both ways. No issues that I could see.
One thing I like is that she is a rabicano- hard to tell in the above photo but her flanks are silver.
So we have a few things to work on as far as ground work goes, got to get those teeth done as soon as I can, I hate to ask much of her until we do that.

Beamers face, checking out his new friend! It's great that she seems unfazed by her new surroundings. So glad your saddle fits, you'll be out on the trail in no time!!
She'll be one happy gal once those teeth are done. So glad she is at a good home where she will be loved, and well cared for. I am glad for her, and for you. :)
Shirley, did they use horse shoes on her?
Yes at one point she was shod, but she is barefoot at the moment and will always be barefoot with me.
Good observations on your part. I might need to get Leah's done, too. She holds a lot of tightness in her mouth. She's a pretty horse and I'm sure Beamer is thrilled to meet her!
Hmm those teeth may be part of the reason she's a bit lighter bodied.
Sure looks like a real nice mare :)
I though so too. Will get her done as soon as I can.
I love Rabicanos too!
She's a pretty girl! And Beamer is such a a good boy, respecting that fence even with a new friend to meet.
